THE
GANGUISE LAKE

Description
|
To 2km to the south of Baraigne on townships of Baraigne, Cumiés, Gourvielle, and Molleville, the artificial dam of the Estrade forms a magnificent lake of 278 hectares.
Builded
on the Ganguise's river in 1979 and conceived initially for the agricultural
irrigation the lake of 6km of long is also a basis of leisures departmental
used essentially for the sail and the windsurf. The plan of water that collects the waters of the Ganguise mainly to the southeast is formed of two arms that join himself at the level of the dam to the northwest. A small island is visible in the arm southern. |

Wealth
of the patrimony |
Outside
of castles of Baraigne, Belflou and Molleville and of remainders ruined
many windmills, the main patrimonial wealth of the zone is his wildlife.
It shelters two protected species in France:
The ashen Heron (Ardea cinerea). The Martin fisher (Alcedo atthis), registered also on the red book of species threatened. Also for to winter, the Duck whistler (Ana penelope), bird partially protected because nesting occasionally in France.
The vast strech of water (most important of the department) constitute the principal place wintering bird concentration. |

Tourism
activities
|
Reforestation under its banks and the installation of a nautical site transforms progressively the lake in versatile tourist center where the bathing and the sailing the summer, share it all year at the fishing. A project of hightening of the three meters dam be going to prolong the lake shortly until Cumies and to double its capacity.

hours at 2 hours 30 of walking - 5 or 7 kilometers. Yellow beaconing. To leave from the nautical basis "En Gaillard" and to follow the road leading to the mill. Facing the mill, to take the dirt track , on the left and to continue straight ahead. At the end of this path, to turn, on the left while following the road during 100 meters. - To bifurcate all over again on the left and to take down the small path crossing the undergrowth. - To follow this trail until "La Barthe" where it is necessary to turn on the right before the first building. Possibility to make a stop cooling to the farm inn "Le Cathare". - To the mini golf, to continue, on the right the alley edged of cypress. Upstart to the D33, to bifurcate on the right in following the road during 100 meters, then, to cross and to go up on the left the path leading toward the farm Lanta. Before the building red, two possibilities of course: - To turn on the right while bordering the building and to follow the forest road. - To take the first path on the left and to follow it until the turn in bend that, on the right, move toward the path of crest. On the course, view on the village of Salles sur l'Hers. - To the junction of the two possibilities of walk, to advance toward the road tarred to turn then on the right. - To head straight ahead during 100 meters then to go up the path and to pass front of the villa. - To follow the road that clears on the dirt track. While reaching the point of view on the small lake of Belflou, to turn on the right, then, 50 meters after, again on the right. While arriving to Belflou, to cross the, village while passing before the castle surrounded with a vast park. - To the intersection of the D33, to take the direction of the dam, of the Ganguise straight ahead, then, to bifurcate on the first road on the right. In top of the slope, to head on the left, toward the mill and to come back to the basis "En Gaillard". Recommendation : This course being very little shady, it is preferable not to take its days or hours to strong heat. |
